Beethoven Triple Concerto Recording

BEETHOVEN TRIPLE CONCERTO

Nicola, Benjamin Grosvenor and Sheku Kanneh-Mason

We are delighted to announce our upcoming recording of Beethoven’s music, featuring his Triple Concerto.

This collaboration has been a source of deep enjoyment for all of us, and we’re so excited to have it documented in this way.

This unique concerto is a musical rarity: in form, spirit and its reliance on true teamwork. It is the perfect gift, allowing us to celebrate our friendship and combined stories of music-making in the UK.

Edinburgh Award Presentation

The coveted award celebrates individuals who have made a unique contribution to the city and brought it to national and international attention.

Nicola was chosen to receive the award this year for her role as festival director of the Edinburgh International Festival

The award comprising of an engraved loving cup from the Lord Provost and Nicola's handprints set in stone at the City Chambers.

The city’s Lord Provost and chair of the Edinburgh Award panel, Robert Aldridge said: “I was delighted to present Nicola Benedetti with the Edinburgh Award yesterday evening.

“Nicola’s handprints are now immortalised in stone at the City Chambers quadrangle, and she deservedly follows in the footsteps of some of the finest individuals associated with our great city.

“From heading up one of the world’s most important cultural celebrations in the Edinburgh International Festival, to being a globally renowned musician in her own right, she has represented the capital with pride, dedication, and skill.

“Nicola is also one of the youngest ever recipients of the Edinburgh Award which shows the measure and scale of her talent and achievements. I’d also highlight the fantastic work of the Benedetti Foundation, based in the city, which focuses on musical education, participation, and experiences. Since its establishment in 2019 it has reached over 50,000 participants of all ages from 103 countries. I’d like to congratulate Nicola on behalf of the city, and I’m sure she will continue to do great things in the future, both here in Edinburgh and beyond.”

Nicola added: “Each gift in our life, such as the role of Festival Director or a recognition such as this award, serves as a propeller – and an opportunity for choice. Each gift holds the potential for responsibility to others, that you choose to serve and grasp, or not. Each gift is a reminder of our place in a lineage of contributors to bettering life for ourselves and for others; a reminder of the collective potential we have when we all consider – in our own unique way – our civic and moral duty.”

King Charles III Scottish Coronation Performance

Nicola recently performed at a 400-year-old ceremony in Edinburgh to mark King Charles’ Scottish ‘Coronation’.

The National Service of Thanksgiving took place at St Giles’ Cathedral in the Scottish capital on Wednesday (5 July). And among a host of music-making, one of the most moving moments came when Nicola played an arrangement of a much-loved melody from Scottish shores.

With the players of The Honours of Scotland Ensemble, Nicola performed a violin and strings arrangement of Farewell to Stromness by composer Peter Maxwell Davies . The piece tells of the peaceful power of the land and sea in the Orkney Islands, north of the Scottish Mainland.

Edinburgh International Festival

This role is the honour and responsibility of a lifetime. The support I have received from colleagues, friends and all our wonderful employees has been deeply moving. Everyone’s pride in the Festival’s achievements is tangible and infectious, both with respect to its long history and traditions, and in more recent times with the enormous success of its 75th anniversary year under Fergus Linehan. I am grateful and energised to work alongside such expertise and dedication.

Over the coming years I will be committed to providing the deepest possible experience, through the greatest level of art, to the broadest possible audience. We will sit in the centre of these objectives, each one compelling us to honour its importance. Even as a child, I never believed the greatest things were for keeping to ourselves.

Review: Benedetti, CSO dazzle in U.S. premiere of Simpson Violin Concerto

Violinist Nicola Benedetti soared fearlessly through the agitated finale of Mark Simpson’s Violin Concerto with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on Friday, and cheers erupted in Music Hall. It was a thrilling finish to a substantial new piece that seems destined to enjoy life long after these performances.

The CSO morning concert, which opened with the U.S. premiere of Simpson’s Violin Concerto, was led by the orchestra’s associate conductor François López-Ferrer, who stepped in this week for music director Louis Langrée. Langrée has contracted the flu, the orchestra said. The program also included Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” Suite, and Ravel’s “La valse.”
